Biogeochemical and microbial indicators of permafrost thaw

With a large collaborative team that includes expertise in permafrost, vegetation, ecosystems, microbial ecology, and machine learning, we are investigating spatial and temporal signals of permafrost thaw in biogeochemical and microbial patterns.

The Harms group collects high-frequency observations of stream chemistry in Interior Alaska, providing an integrative signal of processes occurring in the watershed. We also collaborate on broad synoptic sampling of gradual and abrupt (thermokarst features) thaw to identify indicators of thaw.
